Reading books is the best way to acquire knowledge about any Topic, rather than learning yourself directly from experience. The point here is you do not have to invent a wheel. You need to only use it. Most of the time, due to laziness and/or lack of interest, we reduce the habit of reading books and many people do not read at all. But, this will eventually create more problems in life rather than anything positive.
We study for nearly 15 years of our life just to get a job. Once placed in a Job, most people cut down the amount of reading and try to concentrate on other things in life, merely by just doing the Job at hand. As they grow, they will learn mostly by the work they are doing. At the same time, responsibilities and problems will increase. While solving these problems or in times of handling additional responsibilities, they will tend to make mistakes due to lack of knowledge (even in solving the daily-routine problems, either professional or personal).
If you want to really solve your problems in a better way OR if you want to look at all the available options while solving problems, you need to keep in mind, all the necessary relevant information. This could be collected from various sources like experience, talking to experts or books. You cannot always wait to gain the much needed experience or talk to experts to solve your problems. Since, the best part of the knowledge is available easily in Books; they should be given a try.
All Educated people learnt mostly by books and not through experience or talking to experts. You might miss out getting experience OR you may not get opportunities to meet the right people to talk about your problems. But, you can always get books easily. Books never reject you and Reading books is much easier than facing problems from multiple directions due to a lack of knowledge.
People need to realize that they face more problems in their life due to less knowledge about various subjects. If you are busy in reading only about Professional topics, it is not of much use. Instead you need to be reading books based on the kind of problem you face.
Important steps to be taken:
Visit a Book shop frequently and see what kinds of books are available. There are so many books available, more than we can ever think or dream.
Once you enter a Book-shop, make sure you buy at least one book, doesn't matter what kind of subject it is. Buy the book, whichever you feel like buying it. Go by your innermost instincts.
Collecting various interesting and good books matters. Once you have only good books, you can pick any book to read.
It’s easy to buy books for money. But, what matters most is the commitment to read them. Something has to start somewhere. Once you have the books, then you need to think about reading some books in your collection often (may be not daily). This could be any useful topic. As long as the matter in the book appeals to the mind, it’s definitely useful at a later stage. Do not search for reasons for not reading the book, do not justify by telling 100 unwanted reasons why you are unable to read some book.
Before solving problems, we need to have enough data in mind. But in times of need, this information at hand could be extremely helpful in solving the problem at hand. Example: After learning about a cigarette, you will use that knowledge when it is requires. If you do not know anything about it like you never heard of it or you never read about it in books or you never experienced earlier about having it. Here you will not know what to do when u get cigarette. You cannot blindly get an idea of what to do when a situation arises, unless the information is known to you in advance.
Reading books can be in any of the following ways:
Reading from Start-To-End. Which is best and may not possible for all kinds of topics? If its interesting topic, you might read in this way. But, not possible always.
Reading book by picking up random chapters which interests you and then coming back to other chapters on-demand.
Reading small articles related to some topic on Internet and may be same article from a different author. Understand something about it and then come back to start reading the Book. After following this method, the best way is to read random chapters in the book, and then try to cover it completely.
While reading about any topic, it is essential to maintain interest in it. You need someone to discuss about the topic, even if they don't know anything about this topic. As long as they listen to you, its fine. If they know something about this topic, then you will get feedback and then you can digest the information easily. Here, you also need to make friends the one who likes reading. So, they will try to listen you and share their knowledge and this would enhance your interest in reading further.
Do not target to understand the book 100%. It may not work in most cases. Try to complete the first reading of the book, and then you will have something in mind. Complete reading of the book is the first task, you can later pick a specific chapter for re-reading. If you need it, you can re-read it from Start-To-The-End, once again.
Try reading different books on the same topic. In this way you can understand better about the topic. If it’s a debatable topic, try to find someone to debate with. In this way, you can remember the information better.
Most people will feel sleepy, once they start reading. This is due to lack of interest on reading books. This should alarm in you, the need to rectify the problem. Try to read books blindly even though you don't understand it initially and as you, you get interests back into reading. During this time, choose a small book, with a topic you personally like. Somehow, by hook or crook, create interest in yourself for reading. If u fail to force you in creating interests in reading books then treat that as "Personal Failure".
"If you have a Goal in Life, it is possible to achieve only through acquiring more knowledge (Books could be the major source). Else your goal will become small day by day and you might end up in confusion. Keeping yourself a small goal, will mean leaving yourself Un-Explored"
